Nearly 4,000 RIT students looking for co-ops, internships, or full-time employment are attending RIT’s University-wide Career Fair today in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. Recruiters from more than 250 local, regional, and national employers are on hand, including General Dynamics, National Grid, Moderna, Redcom, Penske, Liberty Pumps, Wegmans Food Markets, and Samsung, among others.

Political science and marketing double major Christopher Ferrari recently completed his co-op at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). Ferrari, who is from Spencerport, N.Y., received the Kristine and John Simmons Public Policy Scholar Internship Fund to help make this co-op more affordable.

RIT is ranked 98th as a “National University” in the 2024 edition of U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges, jumping seven spots from last year. This list of 443 includes the nation’s best research universities that also offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.

Saunders College of Business is entering its first cohort of students into the college’s new Ph.D. in business administration this fall, marking the university’s inaugural social sciences doctoral program. The program is designed to inspire and train scholars to identify, investigate, and solve unique business challenges that influence business and society.

RIT once again made The Princeton Review Best Colleges list. Recognized for its value and career options for its students, the Best 389 Colleges 2024 edition, newly published this month, ranks the university in two Top 50 categories—No. 3 in the undergraduate game design programs and No. 44 in Green Colleges.

Darcie Jones, a fifth-year mechanical engineering major from Reading, Pa., is this year’s Student Government president, representing more than 19,000 students on RIT’s Henrietta and overseas campuses. There were four sets of candidates this year, the most in recent history. This year’s Student Government vice president is J.T. Lapham, a fourth-year biochemistry major from Queensbury, N.Y.

To meet the ever-changing needs of the hospitality industry, the Department of International Hospitality and Service Innovation (IHSI) at RIT’s Saunders College of Business is adding and revamping minors to deliver on employer requests.

RIT Certified, the university’s professional training and workforce development division, is marking a year since the organization’s launch last summer. Dennis Di Lorenzo, executive director, provides an update on RIT Certified’s growing number of program offerings and where the future of workforce and professional education is headed.

Andrew Lytle ’19 (3D digital design) was never a big baseball fan growing up. Before accepting his job at PlayStation’s San Diego Studio as an environment artist, his involvement with sports was limited to attending RIT hockey games. Now, after nearly four years of working on the iconic baseball video game franchise, MLB The Show, Lytle says he’s a proud fan.

The Rochester Beacon features the U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors for the Future, of which RIT was named a member during the 2023 G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.

Thousands of RIT students are graduating this week with majors including engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, business, and fine arts. But more than 250 graduates are also receiving customized bachelor’s and master’s degrees from RIT’s School of Individualized Study, which allows students a flexible education pathway of their choosing.

RIT will confer a record 69 Ph.D. degrees during commencement May 12, marking a 53 percent increase from last year.
